To continue our recent highlighting of our Legend of Zelda Community Forums, I will be starting a forum topic of the week. This week’s thread is all about the Zelda series formula on the whole. Throughout the years the Zelda games have followed a traditional set of gameplay concepts.

This formula has kept the Legend of Zelda games on the top of review scores and one of the best franchises in the industry. With this in mind, how much change would you accept in the Zelda series before it got to the point where you would not buy the game or enjoy it whatsoever?

Zelda must remain medievalish. I was ok with the boats but the train was a wreck. The series will not catch my interest anymore if it starts to implement more advanced technology than a medievalish game should have such as guns, airplanes, cars etc…
My view towards the zelda series is that it should keep up the realism it had in Ocarina of time, Majoras Mask and Twilight princess (atleast in the console games, handheld can go either way for me). Yes Ocarina of time and Majoras Mask are not that real looking now but at the time they were made they sure were.
I truly enjoyed the darkness of Twilight Princess and have to admit I am disapointed that Skyward Sword will not be use Twilight Princess's art style to the T as Majora's Mask did with Ocarina of time. The darkness of the game was great because it matched the atmosphere with the story. A colorful cartoonish zelda game only takes away from the involvement of all the evil things happening and reminds us that it is just a game. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the other zelda's as well, it is just in a different way. Twilight Princess felt less like a game and more like an interactive book or movie, I lost track of time much more with it than any other zelda.
Granted, it would get boring if it was always like Twilight Princess; its just that it made me immerse myself into the story like none other has, which I assume is the developers goal for a great RPG (other than the financial aspect).
