Long dubbed as the Destiny-killer, The Division, based upon its beta, has proved to be a game that just absolutely falls flat onto its face. While the hype for The Division has been greatly inflated, under promises of deep engagement and vast amounts of content, the game just simply comes to be “more of the same.”
Granted the beta only provides a limited exposure to the title’s full depth, one is able to ascertain a certain level of judgment from what has been truly a lackluster experience. How can the game promise to be a Destiny-killer when it falls victim to the same mind-numbing tropes of its victim? How many times can I be asked to complete the same predictable quest again and again to gain a very slight chance of obtaining what I need or want?
Yes, The Division does hold an advantage to Destiny in regards to its ability to halfway tell a story. And yes, The Division has found a few new ways of keeping my interest once again. But at the end of the day, the game feels like it has fallen short of providing a new kind of game. The Division simply feels like a title that will provide a very grindy-filled level of enjoyment until I have collected a few pieces of loot and move onto something with actual replay value.
So why would I be willing to drop 60 dollars on a game that does not live up to expectations? The Division comes out on March 8, 2016 which is just a few days after a much better game is coming out. Instead of dropping my money on a wanna be Destiny clone, I will instead spend that money on Twilight Princess HD for the Wii U.
Twilight Princess currently holds a 95/100 metacritic score based on 73 reviews. This game was met with critical acclaim when it first came out in 2006 and has only been improved upon. Yes the game is just a remastering of an old title, but it still provides something that The Division doesn’t, depth. Twilight Princess has a phenomenal story, hours upon hours of unique gameplay, and a musical score that is awe-inspiring.
Nintendo has also done us all a favor by adding a ton of new content and upgrades to the remake. Twilight Princess HD will not only be a remake, but will also include a new dungeon, new items, and more accessibility; making an already great game even better. When March comes around I know which choice I will be making. I will keep begrudgingly playing Destiny (the same game as The Division), and I will spend my money wisely on Twilight Princess HD.
