The Nintendo E3 Digital Event opened with the reveal of the new Star Fox title: Star Fox Zero, which is due out this year during the holiday season. It also provided many details about the vehicles controls.
- The Wii U GamePad uses a Cockpit mode and motion controls; allows players to aim with the motion controls on the GamePad while flying with the left control stick and performing acrobatics with the right control stick
- This time, there are many new types of vehicles, as there were in Star Fox 64
- The Arwing can now transform into a walking Arwing, a feature from the canceled Star Fox 2
- The Landmaster tank also returns
- There a new vehicle called the Gyro the Gyrowing, a new vehicle. It can launch a remote-controlled robot that can piloted in first-person mode with the GamePad
- Barrel rolls confirmed.
- Fox, Falco, Peppy, and Slippy all return as part of the main task
- According to Miyamoto, the Star Fox series was inspired by the Japanese television series “Thunderbird”
- The many arches players can fly through are based off the shrine arches around Japan
- The name comes from the shape of the kanji for “0”, which looks like a fox tail. It is also because the game is not necessarily a direct sequel in the series
