Skyward Sword Not Selling Well in Japan

skyward sword japanese sales
In Japan, the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has dropped off the top software sales chart. During this holiday month, Skyward Sword has sold less than 320,000 copies. This number is quite low since Skyward Sword is considered by many to be the highlight of the Wii’s life cycle.

Making this even more shocking is the fact that less developed and less hyped entries to the series such as Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks greatly outsold Link’s latest outing. After an initial surge in Japan, Skyward Sword failed to reach the top 20 chart just 2 weeks into its release, despite being in the middle of the holiday shopping season.

To highlight this stunning sales slump we can look at Spirit Tracks which sold 500,000 copies in 5 weeks and Phantom Hourglass which sold 631,100 copies in the same amount of time. Maybe Japanese gamers just prefer the handheld entries to the Zelda series?

I really don't get how "we" are buying Skyward Sword more than the japanese people..
I would be sooo goddamn happy to be able to play Zelda Game in its Original Language.
I mean those jokes and word plays we laugh about in Zelda games are for sure even more funny in Japanese, since Aonuma-san, Miyamoto-san etc. make the dialogues.

Well F*** Japan! When do we realize Japan is not the entire world! If it's selling like hotcakes worldwide, what's the big f***ing deal?

I think I know why The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword is not selling well in Japan, and I don’t think it is because of them liking handheld The Legend of Zelda games. I think it is because of the Wii Motion Plus. I think they don’t want to have to use the Wii Motion Plus. Or maybe they don’t like the stamina bar feature.

Who cares? I say they’re the one’s missing out on a great game. I think the game is perfect. And I would recommend it, as I already have, to any and all of my friends that own a Wii.

If Japan doesn't care that much about Zelda, then stop giving them special treatment and give us an english edition of Hyrule Historia.

From what I've heard, the Zelda series in general is more popular in the West than it is in Japan, so I don't find this too surprising.

And that's a little bit sad.

It doesn't really matter. Different countries always have a better response to certain things whether it be music, movies, and video games. I love the Legend of Zelda but lets face it: People love portable games. It's a lot more convenient than staying at home playing. That might be a reason the Japanese did not have such a great response to the new game. But like I said before, it doesn't really matter.
