A few months ago news broke regarding Universal Studios eyeing Nintendo properties to include as new theme park attractions. Rumors are now circulating that Blizzard Entertainment is being invited to join this new massive project in Orlando, FL.
The timing is opportune for Blizzard, as BlizzCon is months away and the Warcraft movie due out in 2016, it only makes sense that a World of Warcraft type area be included. However, Starcraft would also be a very interesting push.
Pairing with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Studio’s video game venture is something to try and give Disney World a run for its money and bring back competition for Orlando tourists to determine if they want to go to Disney World or Universal Studios. With the removal of Marvel characters from Islands of Adventure, it’s no surprise Universal is looking for the next thing to bring in tourists.
Pokemon, Mario, and The Legend of Zelda are three strong contending franchises to base the Nintendo area on. All three could definitely be included if the park were designed similarly to Islands of Adventure: one main theme, separate areas of the park for different IPs.
Though no specific characters have been confirmed, it has been heavily implied that a Mario Kart race track has been discussed. And based on it’s popularity, it would not be a surprise to see a Splatoon obstacle course.
