Breath of the Wild’s First DLC Pack Includes New Armor, “Trial of the Sword,” and More

Exciting news! Details for the first out of two parts of Breath of the Wild’s DLC expansion pack were recently revealed on the official Zelda website. The first expansion pack will contain five new additions to the game. These include the “Trial of the Sword,” a “Hero’s Path” mode, a hard mode, the travel medallion, and additional armor for Link to journey in.

The Trial of the Sword is a series of challenges that allows you to upgrade the power of the Master Sword, which seems well worth the effort. According to the site, you can “Clear all the trials (about 45 rooms in total), and the power of the Master Sword will be awakened, and it will always be in its glowing powered-up state while usable.”

Link, after approaching a “certain sacred location,” is ready to accept the challenges he will face in the Trial of the Sword.

The Hero’s Path mode is a map feature that displays the paths Link has taken within the last 200 hours of gameplay. The site says that players will be able to use a “time tracker bar” to see where they’ve spent the most time and where they have yet to explore. This seems useful for people who want to be thorough with their exploration.

The hard mode, which is self explanatory, allows enemies to steadily regain health in-battle, which makes defeating them significantly more difficult. This mode will also increase enemies’ levels by one. This means that red Bokoblins in normal mode are now blue Bokoblins. Even silver enemies, which is the highest level for enemies in normal mode, will have their levels increased.

The travel medallion is a feature that will also be coming to Breath of the Wild through this first DLC pack. It is hidden somewhere around the world in a chest, like most of these items, and will allow players to register their current location as a warp point. I think this will be helpful for those wanting to warp somewhere inconveniently far away from a shrine or tower.

Lastly, new armor will be hidden around the explorable world in chests. These include the Korok Mask, Majora’s Mask, Midna’s Helmet, Phantom Armor, and Tingle’s outfit. The Korok Mask will shake whenever the player draws near one of the 900 hidden Koroks in the game. I’m personally looking forward to how helpful this will be during my walkthrough. Aside from the Korok Mask, details on what the other pieces of armor will do has yet to be confirmed. You can take a closer look at the rest of the armor at the end of the article.

Unfortunately, there is not an official release date for this DLC pack aside from it coming out during the summer of 2017. Regardless, I am looking forward to some of these additions coming to Breath of the Wild.  Again, you can find more details on the first DLC pack at the official Zelda site. The Breath of the Wild expansion pass is $19.99 and includes both the first and second packs. The second DLC pack will be released in the winter of 2017.
