Prediction: Best Characters for Hyrule Warriors DLC

Since the release of Hyrule Warriors for Wii U, fans have stated their views on which playable characters would best fit in the spinoff series. We now know that there will be three separate sets of DLC coming to Hyrule Warriors: Legends with warriors, aside from Marin, that have yet to be announced.

According to the Nintendo UK site there will be three DLC packs coming to Hyrule Warriors: Legends this year. These will consist of the “Link’s Awakening Pack” in the summer, “Phantom Hourglass”/”Spirit Tracks Pack” in the fall, and “A Link Between Worlds Pack” during the holidays. The site further states that both the “Link’s Awakening Pack” and “Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks Pack” include one new playable character while the “A Link Between Worlds Pack” will include two. It is likely that the characters joining the Hyrule Warriors crew will be relevant toward the respective games that inspire each DLC pack as Marin will be the character included in the “Link’s Awakening Pack.” The rest of the article will explain my personal prediction on who these characters may be and why they would make appropriate additions to the game, given what Nintendo has released so far.

Marin from The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is already confirmed to be one of the four playable characters coming to the Hyrule Warriors series, but what about the other three? In my personal opinion, Linebeck would be the most reasonable and predictable character to be joining the game in the “Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks Pack.” He is an iconic and memorable character in The Legend of Zelda: Phantom HourglassAccording to VG Chartz, Nintendo sold a global total of 5.14 million copies of The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, which is Linebeck’s respective game, compared to The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, which only sold 3.36 million copies. It is likely that the unique character from the popular game has a higher chance of joining the Hyrule Warriors crew, but it would be a nice surprise to see Chancellor Cole or Byrne in the game as well.

Linebeck and Toon Link

If Linebeck were to join the game, his moves could very well be eccentric and comedic, similar to Tingle’s moveset. As the captain of a boat, his focus spirit or special move could use his S.S Linebeck steamboat to trample the enemies in front of him, although the idea of using a boat as a weapon is uncomfortably similar to the King of Red Lions’… Aside from boats, tossing rupees as projectiles or whacking opponents with treasure or a rolled up map are appropriate moves for this quirky captain. Linebeck’s zany personality and memorable character development in The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass give him wonderful potential as DLC for the Hyrule Warriors series.

As mentioned earlier in the article, the last DLC pack confirmed to be coming to Hyrule Warriors: Legends is the “A Link Between World’s Pack.” The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds is considered a successor to the nostalgic The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. Releasing roughly three years ago, the game consists of different characters and settings compared to the game it was inspired by. With “Lorule”, the world of Hyrule’s dark counterpart, new characters such as Ravio (parallel Link), Hilda (parallel Zelda), and Yuga joined the series in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds. Being able to obtain a Hilda skin for Zelda makes Hilda’s appearance unlikely, but Ravio and Yuga are distinct characters that would make wonderful additions to the Hyrule Warriors series.

Yuga is an evil sorcerer and one of the two villains in The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, pursuing the resurrection of Ganon in attempt to domain over Hyrule and Lorule. His colorful appearance and odd, mischievous nature make him a peculiar character as is, and his rainbow wand provides him the power to transform himself and others into two-dimensional paintings. His moveset could consist of bright, rainbow-esque magic attacks that batter enemies around, and include moves from his final boss fight such as lightning strikes or fire pillars protruding from the sides or floor. It is likely that one of Yuga’s later combos, focus spirit, or special moves would involve his personal resurrection of “Yuga Ganon”, similar to Ganondorf’s last combo that turns him into Ganon. It is easy to imagine his moveset being swift, colorful, and overall pleasant to play. With this, Yuga would make an enjoyable and appropriate addition to the game.

Ravio, Link’s dark counterpart, is a particularly considerable character for a number of reasons. With his rabbit-inspired mask and hat, he masquerades around Hyrule, specifically in Link’s house, as a quirky shopkeeper who sells and lends various weapons in order to aid Link on his long journey. These weapons include the boomerang, hammer, hookshot, bombs, and all four rods. Although Ravio does not use these weapons himself, it would be beyond enjoyable to include them in his moveset. Each combo could consist of a different weapon that is not already an item in the Hyrule Warriors series. This means that any of the Hyrule Warriors items, like the bombs or hookshot, would not likely be included in his moveset. Not going to lie, it would be tons of fun to use the fire, ice, sand, and tornado rods all in one character. His pet bird, Sheerow, would likely be incorporated into his moveset as well. Many fans believe his appearance in the Hyrule Warriors series is inconceivable due to the amount of “Links” in the game (with adult Link, Toon Link, and Young Link), but I believe it is likely that Ravio will join the Hyrule Warriors crew.

Who do you think will be the playable characters released with this year’s DLC packs? Who are you hoping will make an appearance in the Hyrule Warriors series? Let us know in the comments below!

I’d love to get Hyrule Warriors, but I’m conflicted as to which version I should get. Will all of this great DLC be Legends exclusive? I think the main selling point for me right now is the wide variety of characters, so I’d like to buy whichever version will have more of them. But I haven’t been able to get a straight answer anywhere! So In the end, will the 3DS version have more characters than the Wii U version? Or is the new DLC coming to both? And are there any version exclusive characters to the Wii U?

I have both versions and can help you. The DLC from the Wii U version is already in the 3DS set. If you get both, the 3DS one will, or could (don’t know if it’s a limited thing) have a code to put the 3DS characters into the Wii U. They won’t have their stories on the Wii U, but will be playable. The DLC for the 3DS version can go for both systems except the first pack. It’s 3DS exclusive. Medli will be available when the DLC for Legends starts and she can be put in both systems. Hope this helps you to decide on one or both.
